How Could Extreme Temperatures Affect the Car Battery?

Extreme temperatures are certainly responsible for damage to a number of car batteries. If you are seeing your battery perform slowly, it might be a result of making it through one more harsh season.

In the coldest of winters, the frigid temperatures are causing the chemicals inside the car battery to get thicker and work less effectively. One result, the swelling of the battery casing as those chemicals freeze, causing damage that could impact the ability of the battery to turn over the car.

In the hottest of summers, the chemicals might start evaporating, making it harder to complete the chemical reaction needed to power the car and accessories. Things like the headlights, stereo, charging stations, navigational equipment, and power windows, are all adding even more stress to a weakened battery.
